A Prayer for When You're Anxious

Anxiety rarely announces itself politely. It arrives as a tightness in the chest, a mind that will not settle, a night spent rehearsing tomorrow. Scripture does not shame that fear — it meets it, and speaks steadiness into it.

A verse for today

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:6–7

A reflection

Notice that Paul does not promise the circumstances will change — he promises a peace that stands guard, like a sentry at the gate of a restless mind. The instruction is small and doable: name the thing, out loud, and hand it over. You are not asked to feel calm before you pray; you are asked to pray, and let the calm follow at its own pace.
